As well as the above, I am also a committee member of the Scottish Division of Forensic Psychology, a Registered Forensic Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC), Secretary of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute Scotland and sit on the editorial board of the Forensic Update, reviewing articles written by psychology peers requesting publication.
I hold the position of honorary lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University on the Forensic (Legal and Criminological) Psychology Masters course and am an accredited risk assessor for the Scottish Prison Service and the Risk Management Authority. I have experience in Criminal and Civil Cases, and am an Associate of Carter Brown Associates (child care experts in family law proceedings).
My qualifications include: A Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Dundee University (1990), a Master of Social Work from Dundee University (1994), and a Master of Science degree in Forensic (Legal and Criminological) Psychology from Glasgow Caledonian University (2003). I also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy from Dundee University (2005) and completed my full training in EMDR in 2007.
My principle areas of interest are in offender risk assessment and management (including violent and sexual offenders), interventions for offending behaviour (development and supervision), personality disorders, and the treatment of mental health problems and trauma, including PTSD, sexual/physical abuse, anxiety, depression and attachment disorders. I also supervise those wishing to gain chartered status with the British Psychological Society.
I provide individually tailored treatment packages using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Lifespan Integration. Both CBT and EMDR are recognised as the treatments of choice for a number of emotional disorders and trauma by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
I am a recognised psychotherapist and psychologist with the following insurance companies: Axa, BUPA, Cigna, Medisure, Western Provident Association, Norwich Union, and Standard Life.
